Eric Zachs
Managing Partner
Eric Zachs, a Managing Partner of BBV since 2004, currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Shanxi Taiyue Coal Transportation and Trading Co., Ltd. Taiyue Trading facilitates the transportation of coal in Shanxi and nearby Provinces through the rail system as it owns railroad platforms and coal trading licenses. In 1989 Mr. Zachs joined Message Center Beepers, Inc. As President and Chief Operating Officer he directed growth from 38,000 pagers to 350,000 pagers while at the same time substantially improving margins. In 1995, Message Center was sold to AirTouch Paging (currently Vodafone) in the largest sale in the United States of a privately held paging company. In 1993 Mr. Zachs Co-Founded Message Center Management, Inc. which currently owns over 60 antennae sites and manages over 800 antennae sites for the wireless industry. From 1996-2000 Mr. Zachs was Co-Chairman and Founder of ZipLink, Inc., an internet backbone company listed on NASDAQ. Mr. Zachs is also a director of Columbus Acquisition Corp, a $115 million SPAC.
From 2000 to 2004, Mr. Zachs was the General Partner of the Entrust Capital Frontier Fund. The Frontier Fund is a $50 million venture capital fund that focused primarily on software, semiconductors and the wireless industries. Representative investments included Pentasafe (internet security) sold to NetIQ (NASDAQ: NETQ), Sarvega (XML networking) sold to Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) and ArtSelect (outsourced art solutions for major internet retailers and catalogues) sold to a21, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATWO). Other investments included PayPal purchased by EBay.
Mr. Zachs is former President of the Greater Hartford Jewish Community Center and Hartford Dispensary (medical and substance abuse care for the indigent) and serves on the board of the St. Francis Hospital Foundation, Hebrew Home and Hospital, Wadsworth Atheneum (Board of Electors) and Solomon Schechter Day School. Mr. Zachs received his BA from Tufts University and his JD from Columbia University School of Law.
